Multicolor Scientific Opportunities at CIRCE and the ALS
This workshop will explore scientific directions with multi-color spectroscopies covering wavelengths from the terahertz, infrared, visible, VUV and soft X-ray. Speakers are planned to highlight recent scientific achievements and to discuss possibilities for research at the ALS and at the proposed CIRCE facility within the ALS complex. CIRCE will have short electron bunches (down to 1 ps) which will radiate high power coherent terahertz synchrotron radiation and synchronous infrared through soft X-ray pulses at repetition rates up to 1.5 GHz, opening up the possibility of many novel combinations of pumps and probes spanning this wide spectral region. We plan presentations discussing multi-color techniques used for studying chemical systems, condensed matter physics, dynamics, and more.
